Azureus Java based BitTorrent client for Linux x86_64

Azureus 2.5.0.4 on Mandrake 10.1 i586/x86_64

Azureus 2.5.0.4 in combination with Java 1.4.2 Blackdown Java-Linux is
the best BitTorrent application I have come across on the KDE/Linux
x86_64/amd64 Desktop so far, even since its release in 2006. Downloading
an single occasional torrent is not too hard to handle with your
average BitTorrent client, but when you have a whole range of torrentz
for download, only Azureus 2.5.0.4 will keep things manageable.
In particular with used memory and bandwidth. Sadly enough Azureus
is "no more" as the project has been taken over and renamed as
"Vuze" at http://www.vuze.com/app as a "Content Finder". Well I know
where to find my popular torrentz, I only need a lean mean
Torrent engine to get the job done. Azureus 2.5.0.4 is still to be beaten
with such a task. If you fire up Azureus it will ask you to
install the "Updates". Well as Azureus is "no more" the only valid
action is of course to push the [CANCEL] button and start using
Azureus 2.5.0.4.

All Azureus versions can of course be downloaded from Sourceforge
at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=84122.

I however created my own edition which has the old azplugins_2.1.4.jar
update already added. I called it Azureus_2.5.0.4v2_linux-x86_64.tar.bz2
and Azureus_2.5.0.4v2_linux.tar.bz2 inside the downloads. The windows
edition Azureus_2.5.0.4a_Win32.setup.exe has already azplugins_2.1.4.jar
inside.

Why would i run such a oldie version of Azureus then? Well rather
simple : Azureus 2.5.0.4 is fully open source and is licensed under the
GNU Public License (GPL) v2 where the 'Vuze' editions explicitly are
not.

Installation :

   1. make sure j2re-1.4.2 for AMD64/X86_64 is installed on your
Linux Desktop. For Mandrake 10.1 i use j2re-1.4.2-9mdk.x86_64.rpm
      See the downloads above.

   2. Get Azureus_2.5.0.4v2_linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 and unpack it in a directory,
like say $HOME/bt with the command :

      [jackson:stock]:(~/bt)$ tar xvjf Azureus_2.5.0.4v2_linux-x86_64.tar.bz2
      azureus/
      azureus/azureus
      azureus/Azureus.png
      azureus/Azureus.torrent.png
      azureus/Azureus2.jar
      azureus/ChangeLog.txt
      azureus/License.txt
      azureus/plugins/
      azureus/plugins/azplugins/
      azureus/plugins/azplugins/azplugins_2.1.3.jar
      azureus/plugins/azplugins/azplugins_2.1.4.jar
      azureus/plugins/azrating/
      azureus/plugins/azrating/azrating_1.3.1.jar
      azureus/plugins/azupdater/
      azureus/plugins/azupdater/Updater.jar
      azureus/plugins/azupdater/azupdaterpatcher_1.8.3.jar
      azureus/plugins/azupdater/plugin.properties
      azureus/README.txt
      azureus/swt-about.html
      azureus/swt.jar
      [jackson:stock]:(~/bt)$

   3. next start Azureus :

      [jackson:stock]:(~/bt/azureus)$ ./azureus
